Paying Bills & Online Shopping
Any bill with a payment slip (収納代行 barcoded form) can be paid at the register: utilities, taxes, online orders.
1. Check the slip
Your bill must have the barcode and the word "コンビニ支払い" or "収納代行" on it. Most Japanese utility bills and online order confirmations include it.
2. Hand it to the register
Give the slip (and cash) to the cashier. Some slips allow IC card payment, some are cash-only — the register will tell you.
3. Get your receipt
The register stamps the slip "収納済み" (paid) and prints a receipt. Keep the stamped part as proof.
4. Online shopping
Choose "konbini payment" at checkout, receive a payment number, and pay at any branch of the specified chain before the deadline.
Tips
- Late-night (roughly 22:00-24:00) payments may be rejected by the system.
- Very large amounts (over ~¥300,000) are not accepted.
- Some billers charge nothing extra; a few add ¥100-150 konbini handling fee.
