Wi-Fi & ATM
Konbini are the most reliable public spots for cash and connectivity in Japan.
1. Free Wi-Fi
7-Eleven (7-ELEVEN WiFi), Lawson (LAWSON Free Wi-Fi) and FamilyMart (FamilyMart Wi-Fi) offer free hotspots. Connect, then open a browser to accept the terms — most accept the Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi app too.
2. ATM basics
7-Eleven ATMs (Seven Bank) accept foreign cards (Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay). Select "English" on screen. Daily withdrawal caps depend on your bank (typically ¥100,000).
3. ATM fees
Foreign card withdrawals cost roughly ¥110-220 per transaction plus your bank's own fees. Weekends and late night may add a small surcharge.
4. Other ATM services
Japanese cards can also pay bills, transfer money (furiae) and top up IC cards at the ATM.
Tips
- Seven Bank ATMs are found in every 7-Eleven and many other locations — the most tourist-friendly option.
- Wi-Fi sessions are typically limited (30-60 min per session) but unlimited sessions per day.
- ATMs outside 7-Eleven (Lawson Bank, E-net at FamilyMart) also accept foreign cards, but Seven Bank has the longest hours.
